TransCanada: Energy East pipeline construction to create 10,000 jobs
But we expect prices to slow further, for three reasons: rising mortgage rates (rates have risen more than a full point since early May), expanding inventory (as reported by NAR, inventory has increased for six months straight on a seasonally adjusted basis) and declining investor demand. Quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year changes are three-month averages. Data from previous months are revised each month, so data being reported now for previous months might differ from previously reported data. Buyers and Builders Bet on Different Local Markets Four metros have seen asking prices jump more than 25 percent year-over-year: Las Vegas, Sacramento, Oakland and Riverside-San Bernardino. Nine more — including five more in California — have had price gains of 20 percent or more. Price rebounds are helping normalize the housing market: rising prices lift borrowers back above water, and price appreciation will encourage more homeowners to sell — which has already started to bring more inventory onto the market.

“What we are trying to do is be as transparent as possible in terms of the job numbers.” In terms of the 13,000 jobs TransCanada said the Keystone XL pipeline would create, “we can break (them) down job by job.” The 4,400-kilometer (2,700-mile) Energy East line would take oil from Hardisty, Alberta, to a deep-water port at Saint John, New Brunswick, where it could be shipped to refiners in the United States, Europe and Asia. The project will also let eastern Canadian refineries replace 700,000 bpd of imported crude with less expensive Western Canadian oil. While environmental groups oppose the project, the Canadian government supports the concept of a pipeline to the Atlantic coast. Joe Oliver, Canada’s minister of natural resources, said the line would contribute to the “energy security” of North America. “Replacing higher-cost foreign crude with lower-cost Canadian crude for refineries in Quebec and Atlantic Canada would protect and increase job opportunities in the refinery sector and ensure a competitive fuel supply for consumers,” Oliver said in a release.

But new ship orders donat always translate into new constructions right away. Sometimes, shipping firms specify a particular date of delivery for the new orders. If the delivery date is farther out, ship construction firms will delay work. So construction activity, on top of ship orders, gives investors further insight into managersa expectation of future supply and demand differences as well as when and by how much supply will grow in the future.
